600 Subscribers, 27 Cult Classics, and an Infinity of Number Twos šŸ’©

Well, this is a moment worth marking. šŸ˜šŸŽ‰

The halF unusuaL YouTube channel has reached 600 subscribers, and the project has released 27 cult classics. Cult ClassicsĀ may be getting a little ahead of ourselves, of course, but let’s not allow that to get in the way of a perfectly good excuse for an celebration.

First, a genuine thank you to everyone who has clicked that little button to see more. I’m delighted you’ve decided to come along for the ride, and really grateful that you’re interested in whatever it is that happens here. It means a lot to me.

There’s something wonderfully unusuaL about the occasion, though. Six hundred is a digital milestone, and a moment of celebration; something to mark. And here we are, marking it. It’s an achievement, certainly. It’s also simply a number … and we’ve already agreed elsewhere that a number is not a number.

Anyway, I’m going with the halF that allows me a ā€˜Woop!’ on this occasion. šŸ™Œ

The three 3Ɨ3 grids are, in their own way, quite a personal statement. Nine images, multiplied by three, forming patterns and relationships that say something about how I see things, or at least how I find myself looking at them. There’s a certain investment in those arrangements, even when their meaning remains elusive.

And then there’s the other side of the project: poking LTX to see what happens. Setting things in motion, watching the machine produce something unexpected, and finding myself responding to the results. Sometimes there’s a clear intention; other times the interesting bit emerges somewhere between the prompt and the outcome. The work can feel intensely personal one moment and almost entirely impersonal the next.

I guess it’s halF unusuaL.

Meanwhile, the visual side of the project lives on YouTube, where the films and experiments are developing a life of their own. The sonic side continues on SoundCloud, following its own trajectory. Sometimes the two are in step, sometimes they’re not, and sometimes they collide, overlap, or find super weird connections.

They’re related, but they’re not the same thing. One doesn’t necessarily explain the other. And neither quite contains the whole.

So, whichever halF brought you here, enjoy! And if you find yourself with a little time to spare, perhaps wander around to explore some of the other halves, too. My marketing budget is £0.00, but there are plenty of things lurking out there you might not have come across yet.

Before I leave you, there’s the important matter of the arithmetic to consider. Six hundred subscribers divided by twenty-seven cult classics gives us 22.222222222222… A repeating decimal, naturally. The numbers don’t quite resolve, which feels nicely appropriate. I’m not sure this means anything especially profound, but then I’m not sure the other numbers do either. šŸ˜‰ And, errr … Who divides one number by another just to see if they do anything interesting?! šŸ«¢šŸ™

Thanks for being part of this peculiar little experiment. Here’s to the next milestone, whatever that turns out to mean. šŸ¤—
