Some ideas arrive with great seriousness.
But there are others that arrive because someone says āgapybaraā out loud.
This weekās Friday release is the final piece in our little exploration of the gaps. The same lyrics have now wandered through three completely different musical landscapes, each revealing something slightly different about the spaces between things.
This time they arrive wearing oversized front teeth.
gapybaraĀ is an upbeat, slightly unhinged slice of experimental pop. The vocal has been pushed into delightfully squeaky chipmunk territory, while a tiny mouse quietly joins in on backing vocals. Somewhere beneath the chaos the original words are still there, but theyāve become something else entirely.
The video follows the same spirit.
Rather than a conventional animation, itās built around a point cloud scan of a small plastic capybara. The scan continuously breaks apart, reforms and flows through space in TouchDesigner while shuddering, jumpy capybaras flicker in and out of existence around it. Itās somewhere between sculpture, glitch, memory and daydream.
Itās easy to think of 'the gaps' as empty spaces.
But perhaps theyāre where all the interesting things happen.
After all, a melody exists because of silence. Movement exists because of stillness. Even a capybara can occasionally discover its inner chipmunk.
Thanks for following this slightly peculiar trilogy.
Normal service will probably resume ā¦
⦠although experience suggests thatās unlikely.
